Obama Girl, Ron Paul Girl, Giuliani Girl...Clinton
girl? This is the most sexually charged campaign I've experienced, but
why? Is it because of Hillary's attempt to become the first female
president of the US?
It's hard to say, but rumors of her candidacy long preceded any of the
now-famous candidate girls. Sex appeal certainly plays a role in
advertising, and with so many young people voting (many of them barackin), I'm
guessing that more than one 18+ Iowa
male caucused solely on the sexy girl of the respective candidate. But
are the candidates themselves sexy? Is Obama sexier than Edwards?
Hillary does have a girl, sort of. Hott 4 Hill with Taryn Southern has
created a sexually ambiguous video in honor of Hillary (here). With
Hillary's fairly masculine presentation of herself and Bill's sexual escapades,
this video may have done more harm than good. First, Hillary was the
First Lady for 8 years. In a weird pre-Revolutionary War sense, the First
Lady is akin to the Queen of England. She's saintly (in a secular,
American way), not sexy. The First Lady is proper, eloquent, firm, and
steadfast in times of trial.
Our patriarchy obviously makes it difficult for women with political
aspirations. So, I don’t fault her for
being somewhat hawkish, even mannish, but sexy just doesn’t apply
here. It’s not helpful. It's not sex appeal, but likeability, that she lacked in the last debate. Maybe
Hillary can get Bill to sing of her likeability in 2016.
